Your Path to Long-Term Sobriety Starts Here

When I showed up at A Design for Living I had a cellphone with three numbers in
it, a big black trash bag of clothes, and very little hope for the future. I had lived in
halfway houses before and they never really seemed to care what anyone did as long
as the rent was paid. I wouldn’t have gone at all, but I was afraid of going back to living
by myself. On my own I had never been able to muster up the willpower to do anything
recovery related. ADFL provided me with the accountability and support I needed to
become involved in a 12-step recovery program and community. They cared just as
much about my meeting attendance as they did about my rent standing. I’ve always
wondered what made the residents at this place different from the other places I had
been and I believe it’s because everyone was working a program. I never thought it
would be possible for me to feel safe at a sober living house but I did. After 10 years of
repeated failures, I finally know a new freedom and new happiness. Looking back with
several years of sobriety I will always count going to A design For Living as one of the
best life decisions I have ever made.
